Qualifying periods

What is a qualifying period?

A qualifying period is the time (from the start of the contract) during which you are not yet entitled to insurance benefits. The length of the qualifying period and the benefits concerned can vary.

Which qualifying periods apply at ÖKK?

Qualifying period for maternity

Upon concluding one of the supplementary insurance policies mentioned below (where no equivalent previous insurance was in place), there is a qualifying period of 360 days from the start of the contract for all benefits related to maternity. If you already had an equivalent insurance policy in place with your previous insurer, the qualifying period applies from when the contract was confirmed.

Upon concluding a daily allowance insurance policy, the qualifying period for maternity daily allowances is 270 days.

Qualifying period for dental treatment

Upon concluding an ÖKK SMILE supplementary insurance policy, two different qualifying periods apply:

  • 12 months for prosthetic preventative measures such as crowns, bridges, prostheses, dentures, core build-ups, dentures and apparatus for orthodontic treatment incl. the relevant temporary apparatus, repair work and the associated dental treatment and check-ups
  • 6 months for all other treatments, such as fillings and root canal treatments

Upon concluding an ÖKK START supplementary insurance policy, there is a qualifying period of 3 years for orthodontic treatment

If you already had an equivalent insurance policy in place with your previous insurer, the qualifying period for dental treatment applies from when the contract was confirmed.

Benefits for prophylaxes and check-ups are not subject to a qualifying period.

Qualifying period for laser eye treatment

Upon concluding an ÖKK NATURE PLUS supplementary insurance policy, there is a waiting period of 3 years before the costs of laser eye treatment are covered.
